"In pain and still no appointment"

About: Belfast City Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

To date I’ve had numerous scans (CT, Ultrasound and CT With Contrast) and still no appointment despite finding a 7.8cm tumour on my left Kidney. Having been in severe pain (9/10) for some days, I decided to ring my GP, to see if they've received any updates from Urology at Belfast City Hospital, not a word.

As for pain relief my GP recommended Paracetamol and wished me luck. This issue has been ongoing for several months and even the alleged Rapid Results CT scan took over a month for appointment, sorry, but in the real world outside of the NHS, this isn’t rapid, especially when you're  in pain most days. Is it any wonder that the cancer treatment statistics in (NI) are absolutely appalling? I think these day you would be better off being a dog than relying on the NHS.

At this point due to the pain, I’m seriously considering having the kidney removed privately and borrow the 5-figure sum to cover the medical bill.

Where do you go to get real treatment and pain relief in (NI)? My mind boggles.

Dear I.N. Pain,

My name is Chris Thomas and I am the Service Manager for Urology.

I was very concerned to read about your poor experience, but your feedback through Care Opinion is anonymous. I would therefore be keen for you to contact me directly either by telephone on 07824812521 or by e-mail at chris.thomas@belfasttrust.hscni.net; and if you give me your details I would like to review your pathway of care and provide you with a full response.

Kind regards

Chris
