After having my second baby in mid November I was extremely keen to try breastfeeding again as it didn’t go well with my first. I expressed my concerns during antenatal appointments and was assured there was more support now. I was visited by Kirstie from the Breastfeeding Support Service who had been praised by another mum. Kirstie had spoken to me on the phone the previous day and instructed me how to hold my baby to get a better latch and it worked really well. I’d been told to do it a different way by another health care professional and with me being sleep deprived I just wasn’t managing. When Kirstie visited to check how I was doing I felt so relieved that I was doing it correctly. We noticed that the baby had a tongue tie and Kirstie referred me to the clinic at forth valley. I also developed mastitis and again I was supported through this Kirstie helped me with my breast pump and really supported me through that difficult time in my journey. The support I have received so far has been amazing and had this service been available when I’d had my first baby I would not have struggled with breastfeeding. I believe the support I’ve received has given me the tools and confidence to continue to breast feed and I’ve not wanted to give up. I think had I not been supported I wouldn’t still be breastfeeding today. I feel a lot of woman give up because the support just wasn’t they’re but the service is amazing, the staff are knowledgeable and the evidence is more up to date. It had been explained that it was a pilot scheme but forth valley needs this service, new mums need this service.
"Amazing support"
