I was recently discharged from Ward 56 after major gynaecological surgery. I was under the care of Dr Kent who operated on me alongside Dr McCormick. I am hugely indebted to these brilliant surgeons and their colleagues in the operating theatre, whose skills have resulted in me being well on my way to recovery.
My experience of Ward 56 was nothing short of excellent. I can honestly say that there was not a single individual working in (or associated with) the ward who was not kind, helpful and genuinely pleasant. The skills and caring of the nursing staff were superlative and restored me from a state of helplessness to walking out of the ward in the space of 5 days.
Some names that I remember are: Hannah, Natalie, Lynn, Kim, Nadia, Catherine, Regina, Kelsey (student nurse) … and it is a great disservice that I didn't absorb or recall all the other names in my sometimes befuddled state post-surgery. I'd like to especially thank Lynn who saw me through a low moment with empathy and compassion.
Facing my surgery was a formidable prospect, but I couldn't have asked for better care, from my surgeons, anaesthetists and other operating team to all the staff on the ward. I feel that, from this patient's perspective, Ward 56 could be used as an example as to how to perform patient care exactly right.
My heartfelt thanks go to all.
