"Wonderful people"

About: Kettering General Hospital

Discovering a hole in my retina, I was offered laser treatment the same day. During the treatment, I had a seizure (never had one before - very frightening!). The nursing staff leapt into action without drawing breath. A completely unforeseen situation was dealt with as if everybody had been ready and fully prepared for it to happen. Caring nursing staff could not have been more supportive to me and my wife in what was a deeply unpleasant experience. Returning later in the week to have the laser treatment completed, I was naturally extremely anxious. A conversation with the surgeon beforehand put me somewhat at ease. Being greeted by the nursing staff who remembered me from earlier in the week, though I had no recollection of them, having been very much "out of it", was helpful too. And having one particularly special nurse sit with me with a soothing hand on my back, singing gently to me and soothing me through the completion of the laser treatment - you will know who you are - thank you so much:-) - made the experience bearable.

I spent the remainder of the day at KGH being ferried about from one test to another to ensure my well-being in light of the seizure.

An absolute testament to everything that the NHS should be about.
