My mum was admitted to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh ward 205 recently. She was there for 2 weeks and latterly received end of life care from the team on the ward.
Mum was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2020 and received 2 years of immunotherapy. She also had Addison's disease as a result of the immunotherapy.
When she went into 205 her mesothelioma had returned with a vengeance and was twisting her oesophagus. She had multiple scans, X-rays and endoscopies. At all times she kept informed about her care and treatment options.
I cannot thank the nursing staff, healthcare support workers and doctors enough for their treatment. They showed mum great care and helped her maintain her dignity right until the end.
They took the time to massage cream into her hands and feet, wash her, brush her hair and wipe round her mouth with mouthwash. They were so kind towards my family and I and supported us throughout. They helped to make her difficult passing easier for us.
