I had a torn retina, which later had detatched and subsequently haemorrhaged. This was repaired in vr surgery by the amazing vr team. I then had cataract surgery and later inflammation . I eventually required a yag laser procedure to restore my sight. The work of the entire team in opthalmology, from reception, nursing staff, photographers, vr fellows, the newlyn unit, and the lead consultant was quite incredible from my initial injury and many visits, procedures and examinations. Each individual was reassuring and had time to answer questions, and make me feel special. Early efforts to save the eye with laser treatment were often done"after hours" and on a particular vr fellow's day off! I have just been discharged after nearly 3 years of regular visits. The Eye Clinic at Treliske is an example of the nhs working at an exemplary level, at a time of increasing patient numbers. I am forever indebted to them.
