"A difficult experience"

It began quite badly because I wanted to do a telephone call and they wanted me to go online -which I have never done in my life. Then I spoke to another member of staff, who referred me to another member of staff who would be able to help me go online.

My paperwork says I only attended one session, which isn’t true because the other member of staff helped me at least twice and I know these things can’t be helped but my therapist had a holiday in-between my sessions and then went on the sick. No one from the talking therapy people got in touch at all. I phoned them and they said when my therapist was back to work they would give me a call. I waited again and I never received it.

So I phoned again and spoke to another member of staff and they said that they'd managed to find out some things about my case and was looking into my case. I said it would have been nice if someone would have let me know what was going on, especially when someone has MH problems-they are stressed out enough.

Then they got in touch again, the second member of staff, they were ever- so nice. I have had a letter to say I only attended one session. I messed up getting online when the other member of staff was here because I didn’t really know what I was doing.

Now I have been referred to an Older People MH community service and then after I had read the first letter, I looked at the second and it was someone else’s private and confidential details on it.

I wish really that places like this would realise that there are older people out there with MH problems who cannot go online.

When I spoke to the therapist they were ever so good and helpful-although they felt I could do with more help than they could give me, which I thought was very kind to be honest like that. They said they would try and get me more help. So it is the system, not the therapist.

I’m very sorry to read of your experience of Somerset Talking Therapies Service. We work very hard to meet our patients’ needs in accessing therapy – offering face to face, telephone and online interventions – and it’s disappointing to read that we failed to help you access the help you needed.

If you would like to get in contact with me as below, I’d be keen to look further into what happened to avoid it occurring again for any other patient. We can also discuss ways we can pick up your support and treatment again.
