"Is this professional?"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a relative),

Having visited relative in ward 14 who had been admitted with fracture related to intoxication and alcohol excess and struggling with alcohol .

I was surprised to find the ward had a stall to sell raffle tickets containing large quantities of alcohol. I did bring this up with a member of staff, who laughed and commented that on another ward someone had taken the alcohol.

Is this professional and right? Could an envelope with winning prize not be placed rather than potentially tempting vulnerable patients in an open clinical area.

We have taken on board your comments and plan to implement this change with immediate effect. It was not the intention to cause any distress to any patients being cared for in our hospital and we take the safety of our patients very seriously.

Thank you once again and kind regards
