"Attentive nursing staff but some communication issues"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I had a Holmium Laser Prostatectomy. The anaesthetist was very good. The specialist surgeon found some nodules.

The night shift team of nurses had a temporary nurse whose English wasn't good. One nurse didn't really listen to what I had asked for (elasticated stockings to prevent blood clots) but gave me ankle socks instead. Overall, the nursing staff were very attentive to my needs.

The NHS wants to make sure that any temporary staff have very good English i.e. good listeners and communicators, and ensure that their attitudes are positive and cheerful.

Dear DavidMac, thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback following your recent interaction with our clinical services in Day Surgery for your Holmium Laser Prostatectomy procedure. I am pleased to hear that overall your experience was a positive one within the department, I will however ensure the feedback is provided to the wider team to allow us to learn from your experience in relation to communication and attitude. The staff within the department work very hard and deliver high quality care - I am sure they will welcome this opportunity to learn and improve where possible.

Thank you again for your feedback and I wish you a speedy recovery

Your Sincerely

Dr David Watson

Chief of Nursing, Acute Services

NHS Forth Valley.
