I am type 2 diabetic on insulin. I am a retired nurse. Recently I have been going through chemo every three weeks. I adjusted my insulin when I took the steroids after this.
I have now to start chemo every week for nine weeks and I needed advice about adjusting my insulin every week. I just needed someone to talk me through it. I have only spoken to the diabetic nurse once before about three years ago. When they phoned back they didn’t give me any advice because they didn’t know. They said that I seemed to be doing OK, and that was the only answer.
Surely I’m not the first and certainly won’t be the last diabetic person to get chemo. If THEY don’t know, surely they can find out, but I CANNOT.
Please make sure staff are better informed. Meanwhile I will muddle through myself without help or advice.
