"Professional teaching hospital"

About: Watford General Hospital

I walked into a&e on Saturday 18th November having had a fall from my horse. The pain was so bad I could not talk. They took me through to triage and I was seen by approximately 20 different people checking my lungs, bones, head and neck. I had an ultrasound and a ct. scan within 30minutes of arriving. By 10pm I was admitted to Cleves ward with a diagnosis of 5 broken ribs. The following day I saw the Thoracic team and the pain nurse. I was cared for by nurses and hca’s for 24hours over 5 days. I came home on 23rd November with pain meds and a care plan. All in all I would guess that over 30 people helped me. They all worked very hard over very long hours. (12 hour shifts). Massive thanks to all, especially the health care assistances and the ladies that brought me my meals and cups of tea. Their constant support and kind words needed a special mention.

We need very clever doctors to fix the problems and mangers to pay the bills, but we must not forget how important compassion is when people are sad and low. Empathy goes a long way to help the healing process, as does taking the time to simply listen.

Thank you Cleves ward.
