At the end of the summer I was feeling that it was time I got some help to cope with managing my low mood.
I wanted to use the NHS services and meet in person with a therapist, so I applied to ask for support using Merton Uplift.
However, I was offered support on the phone instead, which I chose reluctantly and only because it was available earlier.
On my first appointment, I was disappointed to discover that I had been assigned a trainee psychologist, but then I found that they were well prepared and had great insights into the situations I was describing and had helpful suggestions. Furthermore, receiving support on the phone turned out to be actually quite convenient, as I was able to fit the appointments around my busy life more flexibly.
So, overall, I found using the Talking Therapies service very useful and encourage users not to be put off if offered a trainee psychologist, as my experience was positive and the whole experience was helpful.
The CBT format is normally made up of 6 sessions, but when supported by a trainee practitioner, 8 are available, which is another plus.
I am not sure these are enough to solve anybody's issues, but they are a good beginning and the service is available in case of relapse.
I am grateful to Merton Uplift for the support I received.
