I experienced severe pain in the middle and outside of my left foot at the beginning of this year. I went to see a doctor at the Rossair Clinic in Limavady who couldn't see anything wrong but sent me for an X-ray and blood tests which all proved negative. They sent me to see a podiatrist and over the course of the next few months I saw three different podiatrists in Limavady and Eglinton.
I was diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis and given various exercises to do. None of these proved effective and my extreme pain prevailed. During a routine visit of a podiatry technician I spoke to him of my frustration. He said I needed to see Colm at the Gransha Clinic in Derry. He was very helpful and arranged an appointment for me and confirmation of a date and time arrived a few days later.
I duly went to see Colm. He got me to walk across a rubber like mat on his office floor a few times, he asked me a few questions then he examined my foot. He squeezed my foot from the heel to the outside middle where he found the most painful spot. He immediately said that I didn't have Plantar Fasciitis but I had Cuboid Syndrome. He explained to me, using a skeletal foot, that this was caused by the displacement of the Cuboid bone. Colm gave me two Orthotics to wear and said he would get me back in six weeks.
I started wearing these immediately and within days the pain in my foot eased dramatically and remains so. I can't thank Colm enough for this and am very grateful for what he has done for me.
I feel that I suffered a great deal of pain, and had mobility problems, for a lot longer than necessary due to the failure to properly diagnose what I'm told is a fairly common condition.
I hope this may be of help to anyone else who may be suffering unnecessarily from the same misdiagnosis.
