"I have been an outpatient and ..."

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

I have been an outpatient and visited ENT clinic 4 (or is it 5) times in about 6 months. Staff are always willing to help as much as they can. Appointments and nursing assistance is very good. Some of the doctors explain what they are doing and what appears to be wrong very well.

What could be improved

Seen a different doctor each time on my visits i.e. 4 (5?) which combined with second problem below results in poor treatment. Should schedule patients to see same doctor on follow ups.

Recording of the condition poor and notes hardly used e.g. nobody appears to know the seven different antibiotics I have been prescribed! Technology must be available to record categorised data like diagnosis and drugs prescribed which then can be easily viewed. Current paper based folder is inadequate. If it has to be paper based then doctors must be allowed time to read it before/during appointments.

Data does not get back to referring GP who could also provide continuity and oversight of treatment.
