"Such genuine care and compassion"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Dept of Scheduled Admissions Woodend Hospital / Elective Orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was recently admitted to Ward 9 at Woodend Hospital for 4 nights to undergo some procedures on my knee following complications from a surgery earlier this year.

I was incredibly nervous and emotional because there was a chance they wouldn't work, but the staff at Woodend - nurses, support workers, domestics, porters, AHPs and medical staff - went above and beyond to reassure me and make me feel comfortable whilst I was there.

Special shout out to Christine, Jancy, Mel and David in DoSA for keeping me calm whilst waiting for my initial procedure, and Ruth, Catherine, Venus and Lee for caring for me on the ward. Thanks to the nurse who brought me a tray of tea and biscuits in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep (I'm so sorry I cannot remember your name - I was so sleep deprived).
Most importantly, thank you to the two nurses in recovery who were with me after I was told my first procedure didn't work (I believe one of them was named Stephen). They held my hand when I was upset and went above and beyond by coming to check on me the following two mornings before their shift. I cannot tell you how touched I was by this - such genuine care and compassion really meant a lot. I hope this message finds its way to these individuals so that they know how amazing they all are.
My consultant and his team are experts in their field and did everything they could. I cannot fault the standard of the surgeries. We knew there was a chance the first procedure wouldn't work but I'm pleased to say the second one went to plan and I am at home continuing with intensive rehab to ensure a full recovery! Thank you NHS workers - you are absolute gems.

Hello mykneejourney54,

Caroline Mutch, Senior Charge Nurse at Ward 9, Woodend Hospital has asked that I share the below in response to you getting in touch:

'Thank you for sharing this lovely feedback with us mykneejourney54. As the Senior Charge Nurse for Ward 9 it made my day reading about the how each of the team members mentioned went above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

I will make sure that all my ward 9 colleagues have the opportunity to read your kind words – which will mean a lot, and help to make these busy winter months a little bit easier.

I’m so glad to hear your surgeries went well and that you will are working towards a full recovery.

Take care,

Caroline'
