(as the patient),

I was in hospital last December 2022, I had a burst appendix, and after I developed Sepsis. I was discharged with no follow up appointment or after care, needless to say the after effects of Sepsis were truly awful.

My recovery was very slow, after 3 months I found the UK Sepsis Trust, this is a charity to help survivors of Sepsis, that is when my recovery started, the help I received was fantastic.

I want to know WHY I was not given any information about what might happen to me,  if I had been given  the leaflet explaining about the after effects, my recovery would have been so much easier, it’s a FREE resource that the hospitals and GP’s should be using

I am sorry to hear that you have had such a negative experience due to poor communication, and lack of sepsis aftercare provison and information.

I have passed your feedback to the Nurse Manager for Surgical Services and asked them to review NHS Highlands Policy regarding discharge and patient information leaflets. Your feedback will allow us to review this function and make improvements to patient care.
