"My husband's accidents."

About: Chalmers Hospital / Minor Injuries Dr Gray's Hospital / Emergency Medicine General Practices in Grampian Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as other),

My husband attended Chalmers Hospital in Banff in mid June after a fall in the garden. He had an Xray and had broken his upper right arm. We attended ARI the next day where is was decided it was not suitable for a cast so a brace was fitted. Subsequent appointments were made and attended at Chalmers with Telemed to Aberdeen on later in June and up to the middle of September when the doctor said for him to start removing the brace for short periods and that physio would be organised  for him. A further appoint was made  December at ARI for a physical examination. No contact re physio so far, and we're in November. He had another fall in the house on in late October and damaged his hip area. An ambulance was arranged to take him to Dr Greys Hospital in early November as he was unable to move or weight bear on his left leg. The paramedics had to bring him downstairs in a chair as he was totally immobile. They were amazing. I had hurt my back the previous day trying to get him downstairs to the toilet as our bathroom is downstairs. The paramedics said that I should not be lifting but I didn't have a choice.  He was Xrayed and no abnormalities were found. It was then decided to order a Cat scan to assess for further injury, nothing was found and he was sent home with a zimmer frame, with a promise of physio.  He is now sleeping in a chair as he cannot get upstairs and I cannot help him, we are both pensioners. We do need some sort of after care for him with regard to personal hygiene and sleeping arrangements. I have called at my GP surgery today and was unable to make an appointment as all regular appointments are booked up until December. I have to ring at 8am every morning to see if I can get an appointment for that day. The information from Dr Greys has been passed to our GP with no follow up. Why has physio not been mentioned? My sister who has made an 800 mile round trip, has taken some time off her work to help out but has to return home on Friday.

Thank you. It is beyond understanding how anyone can crititise the work that the ambulance crews do.

We have also had a visit from a physio to access my husband's issue. 10/10 for you all.

Dear Lynnemik,

Thank you for contacting us via Care Opinion. Firstly I would like to apologies for the time it has taken to get back in touch with you. I’m also sorry your husband has had a such a long wait to see a physio following his accidents in both June and October – this has clearly been a very frustrating time for you both ending up with you being injured too.

I see from your response to David at the Scottish Ambulance Service that you are now being seen by the physio team, but if you would like this looked into further I would be to happy help make sure the services tagged in your story do that for you.

If you would like me to do this, can you contact me on email: kirsten.dickson@nhs.scot or phone/text: 07885720267 and we can discuss the next steps.

Take care,

Kirsten
