"Removal of Mirena Coil."

About: Sexual Health / Contraception Service

(as a service user),

It's taking several months and a self referral to get to this stage but I do eventually get my Mirena Coil removed through this service at Portadown Health Centre. My GP and local family clinic do not offer this service. I was not told about this service 3 years ago at a smear clinic. I tried to find out but no one could help me. Only found out in June 2023 about self referral service if coil removal.

Dear nuthatch39,

Thank you for commenting on your recent experience about coil removal in Contraception Service, SHSCT.

We recently made changes to our service to help improve accessibility with a new QR code in July 2023 for self referrals into us by client. This is to help speed up the process a bit as you can self refer to us directly unless you have other complex gynae issues which we cannot help with.

We try to keep our waiting list times down & have a priority booking list from other service providers in our Trust.

I am pleased you were able to access our clinic to help with your request particularly as that your GP does not offer this service.

Also we have developed a new Pop Up banner with this QR code on it & a list of services we offer. This is to help make our clinic more visible to the public.

Sometimes word of mouth can help other women in a similar situation, so spread the word by all means. Thank you again.

Sincerely,

Kate Gribben.

Lead Nurse CASH, SHSCT.
