I suffer from Ehlers Danlos Syndrome which mainly affects my joints in my legs, my GI tract which is partially paralysed meaning I’m fed through a tube into my small bowel bypassing my stomach as my stomach is most affected (gastroparesis) causing food to not digest therefore food lies in my stomach making me really unwell, this can cause me to throw up up to 30 times a day on a bad day. Because of extreme vomiting I require a ryles tube which goes up my nose down my oesophagus and into my stomach, I then attach a bag to allow my stomach content to drain out which helps with extreme vomiting. My condition has meant I spend frequent & long periods of time in hospital.
I’m usually admitted to ward 53 where staff have come to know me very well. The Staff on ward 53 are very attentive and nurturing towards myself, the care is exceptional towards myself and of course my health. I cannot thank the staff enough for their care and respect towards me, not that I deserve it at times. Long & frequent hospital admissions can cause frustration & upset, especially when you’re young and should be out with friends. But I’ve come to accept that sometimes hospital admissions are avoidable and push through and get home.
I’ve received and receive phenomenal care from the nursing staff every time, as a patient who spends a lot of time in hospital I can say that ward 53 has given me the best and really attended to my needs. Lewis, the charge nurse, has always given me the best care and has always supported me and not just towards my physical health but also my emotional well-being when I need it the most, which really changes my mindset on hard days. Being young and in hospital had proven difficult over the years so having a nurse who listens on emotional days makes a world of difference. Thank you.
"The care is exceptional"
