About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Emergency department

(as a service user),

Attended ED in Altnagelvin with my daughter, as advised by GP out of hours service.

The dept was clearly very busy. The reception staff were very respectful not to speak loudly when clarifying my daughter's and my personal details.

The waiting areas appeared clean, however there was an unpleasant odour during my visit. The treatment area was very clean as well.

The nursing and medical staff were very friendly, professional, competent and efficient. Particular mention to Peter, the doctor on duty who looked after my daughter, Claire who sorted out the post care treatment plan, and to the triage nurse who I apologise I forget her name but she was brilliant with my daughter. 

Whilst the department was very busy, we were seen, treated and given a post care treatment plan within 5 hours, which I was very grateful for. The staff never showed any signs of pressure or stress of any kind, they took everything in their stride. A credit to their profession and the trust they work in. Well done everyone.

I am so happy to hear that you and your daughter had a positive experience in our department. We are often under extreme pressure with overcrowding and long waits in our department which can be disheartening for both patients and staff, so sharing your kind words means so much to our team.

Thank you Fiona for coming back to me. it is nice to put a face to a name so thank you for that.

Taking the time to leave my honest feedback is a small way to show my appreciation.

I really hope you do pass on my words of thanks and gratefulness to all staff particularly Peter and Claire and the reception staff
