"Painful hysteroscopy"

About: North Middlesex Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

Last year I had unusual post menopausal vaginal bleeding and after positive ultrasound was referred to see a gynaecologist at North Middlesex Hospital. During the consultation I agreed to have hysteroscopy preformed while being  reassured that it causes only mild pain. I was not offered any painkillers but upon reading the leaflet I taken two paracetamols as a precaution.

What followed was something that will stay with me forever. The procedure was preformed by nurse and it was the most traumatic medical procedure I had ever experienced. The pain was so severe that I was in the state of shock, shaking and screaming. The severity of pain would definitely be on scale 10/10,  though I was never asked for feedback.  I was walking to the car park crying and still shaking in utter shock. Never again - I think it should be always preformed under sedation or general anaesthetic .
