"It's not a diet programme"

About: Adult Health Services / Healthy Lifestyle & Weight Management Service

(as a service user),

It's been an interesting journey. Apart from several administrative errors. People need to know that it's not a diet programme. There were several disgruntled patients who didn't really ever get what it was.

One of the staff is an utter legend. Those who stuck the course all agreed and to suddenly have them replaced was a shock and a bit pish to be fair. At least they had a modicum of authority! The one size fits all sessions didn't work well- there were definitely some injuries or other side effects brought on by it.

Another staff member is quality, really great. Good for a laugh. Gets things moving. There have been amazing light bulb moments, but not enough momentum or backing to enforce bit that didn't work. There should be better access to physio/massage as I think those with sore knees, hips and backs could have done with help.

I also feel going from weekly support to monthly support straight away is lacking. Poor decision. There needs to be a gradual weaning off the support. Lots to consider.

I am happy I had the chance to do it, even if it was as awkward as hell being the only chap in the group. There should definitely be access online for specific weight management guidance for those on this journey. There's very little, if any, online support.

Thank you for your feedback on our service, we really appreciate you taking the time to provide your honest experience as we continue to grow and develop the service.

Please accept our apologies for the admin errors that you experienced, if you would like us to look into this further for you, please email LWMS@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk and we can see where our processes can be improved.

We do provide an information leaflet about what to expect from the programme prior to the class beginning to highlight what participants can expect, as we promote healthy lifestyle changes and aim to make this as clear as possible across our material and resources. However, on receiving your comments we will look at this information leaflet to make sure all the details of the programme are clear and understandable.

During the transition from the more intensive 16-week active phase to the maintenance phase, there may be a change in the staff delivering the sessions as unfortunately we’re unable to guarantee the same staff member across both phases, however all our staff are trained equally to ensure the same experience for all. Patients are also welcome to speak to their facilitator to detail any issues they’re having within the class, should they feel something isn’t working for them. This also applies if they are experiencing any pain and require further support, for example, from a physiotherapist.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions to help to improve our service delivery for all patients.

Regards
Jonathan Cavana
Service Manager
