In July I had a laparoscopic anterior resection. Throughout the process, the operation itself, my 5 day stay in hospital and the involvement of the colorectal nurse team, my care has been excellent.
I am particularly impressed by how the different parts of the process connected - as it is such a complex organisation.
If I have one negative, it is that it took 11 hours from being told I was going home to actually being able to leave! I believe pharmacy was a main problem but from talking to other patients, it is quite a common problem. Surely this can be improved - to release beds quicker - and to help people wanting to go home?
In September a colorectal nurse explained to me, and showed me, the next 5 year monitoring process which helped me a great deal - as I was very worried about not having follow up chemotherapy.
"Excellent care but long wait for discharge"
