"Hard to recall what I was told when sedated"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Endoscopy and day care

(as the patient),

I attended for colonoscopy. The whole process from beginning to end was warm and professional. The staff, from admission to recovery, were all considerate.

The only suggestion I have to improve the experience would be to a written note on discharge outlining what was found. As the sedation hadn't completely worn off it is difficult to remember exactly what I was told.

Wonderful staff.

Dear Silverdale 54

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your experience in the Endoscopy Unit, and apologies for delay in response.

I would like to thank you for the kind words regarding the caring, professional staff.

I will take your comment regarding the findings of the procedure and your difficulty remembering what you were told forward.

Amnesia is a recognised side effect of the sedation. In some cases the patient will have a copy of the report to take away, however this is not always possible. I will discuss with the team actually writing the outcome of procedure on the post procedure leaflet that you take away with you. This has been an improvement I would like to introduce since the layout of the department has changed.

We welcome any comment that can improve the experience of patients attending the unit.

Thank you

Kind Regards

Michelle
