I had gone into the minor injuries unit for a follow up for my severe arm burn. They quickly realized I needed to go to A & E to check for infection and potentially speak to plastics. My doctor was named Craig and he was calm, efficient and very knowledgeable. He assessed my burn, put me on an antibiotic drip and took my blood to test it. He then followed up with the burn unit and got them to phone me to make an appointment.
Also, Balbinder who was a nurses assistant put my line in and gave my husband and I some comic relief from his joyful demeanour. Before I left Balbinder wanted to make sure I was bandaged properly and he did such a stellar job my husband felt the need to take a picture. While he was bandaging me we talked about our shared travels to Japan and our families. He was such a nice person and I knew he cared. Again, I’m from the US so I’m stunned by the NHS. You all rock. Thank you for what you do.
To follow up I got into the burn unit at the Royal in two days where Joanne took lovely care of me and when I got really scared after seeing the state of my burn, she just let me close my eyes and talk her ear off and before I knew it I was all done. I’m going back up to the burn unit again next week where I’m sure I’ll have another positive experience. Thank you for everything.
Love,
"Queen Elizabeth A & E"
