"Level of care I received"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Medical Assessment Unit

(as the patient),

I was taken into monklands with ambulance to Ed department

I had just went through major surgery in the past two weeks previously I have a large wound that blood had been pouring out from the lower section of my wound around the area was swollen red and hot to the touch

The department was pretty busy so I was left sitting on wheelchair in corridor

I was getting very uncomfortable and didn’t feel good then I felt leaking from wound I put my hand to the wound and had blood over my hand I tried to catch the attention of 2 members of staff who didn’t pay much attention then I spoke louder asking for help in which the staff member went oh your finger is bleeding walked away

There was an older gentleman in a wheelchair in front of me and he turned round asking if I was ok I said no he called to someone and csw came and took me into the triage area

She got me a trolley to go on and gave the wound a clean I was then seen by a doctor who was very polite and said he would do my bloods got full set of Obs done and bloods taken

I was then moved round to main department where I was put in to a cubicle I had to shout and ask for blanket as I was feeling very cold

I was left in the cubicle for a little while

It was changeover which I understand and also the department was busy the next a doctor came in gave me two boxes of antibiotics explained I had to take two one with breakfast one with evening meal he then said I was free to go just get myself ready I had said I’d need to call my partner to come for me he said yes just get yourself sorted go wait in the waiting room

The trolley was a bit high so I edged myself to end to help me get out at this point I felt the blood running from me again was all on floor down my legs I was scared to move I shouted for help for a bit then I braved it to get off the trolley to get to the nurse alert but no one came I then went out the room and a female member of staff asked if I was ok i explained she said go into the room i will get help for you a male nurse came in he cleaned all the floor up and said it was ok for me to stay in room until my partner came for me

My partner came and went to desk in Ed department was told I wasn’t there by a male he then called my phone and I said yes I’m in here so I went out room seen my partner he came got me

I feel there is no excuse for the poor or non existent care I received my wound wasn’t properly assessed no dressing put on it

The doctor who came in with my antibiotics I felt just wanted me out the room no care I’ve had to get my GP to assess my wound and he couldn’t believe it hadn’t been properly assessed and dressing put on
