Dad was admitted and found to have had a mini stroke. Placed on g3 where he stayed for 6 days. Couple of issues.. he had meals given to him that he clearly hadnt been consulted about. Given mushroom soup (hated mushrooms) loved fruit crumble and custard which was on the menu and yet he was given sliced apple and grapes. He had dementia so my guess was that they werent fully asking him and giving him enough time to process a correct response. Once we realised these issues, we ordered the food for him. We arrived a couple of times to find an untouched tray of food in front of him. Sadly my father was blind and no-one had bothered to assist with his eating. We then visited Dad to co-incide with meal times!
Dad was discharged after 6 days and managed to last a further 3 days before being re-admitted by caring and compassionate ambulance staff where he was placed on ward f10 for end of life care. Sadly he passed away after just 3 days. I know these are only small issues but hopefully by reviewing our experiences, this usually well thought of hospital can make improvements that will help both patient and families hoping their loved one will be well loved after.
