"Helped me to build up my motivation when everything felt overwhelming"

About: Ealing IAPT

(as a service user),

I was feeling really down and anxious over the summer. I approached my GP who gave me details to refer myself for counselling. I was told there would be a long wait, but thankfully I got seen much sooner than expected.

The sessions were on the phone for an hour a fortnight so were easy to fit around my schedule and kids. The sessions were very helpful and got me through a very difficult time.  They helped me to identify what was causing my anxiety and strategies to help me enjoy life again.  For example, being more present, more mindful, doing a range of activities (particularly increasing pleasurable activities, time for myself).

Liyah was always very encouraging and listened to all my concerns, helping me to acknowledge and validate my feelings, even when they felt trivial.  She helped me to build up my motivation, small steps, when everything felt overwhelming. I still have a way to go but I am definitely feeling better and have strategies to help on bad days.  I am starting CBT soon and looking forward to that.
