"Kindness, professionalism and empathy"

About: The Lanarkshire Beatson University Hospital Hairmyres / General Surgery (Ward 5) University Hospital Monklands / Chemotherapy Day Unit (Ward 15) University Hospital Wishaw / General Surgery (Wards 16-18)

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. My chemotherapy treatments were given in Monklands Hospital, where I can honestly say the nurses in ward 11 and the cancer specialist nurses were outstanding!

My chemo was weekly and caused many side effects which were seen and  treated as soon as I phoned the cancer nurse helpline which was answered by Jannie (not great with names so hopefully that’s right) and I got a return call almost immediately from either Lorna or Annmarie who then fitted me into their busy schedules to see me and prescribe meds required.

I then had 3 surgeries by Mr Murphy who was my surgeon, very kind, calming man, as were his staff in Wishaw and Hairmyers hospitals.

Radiotherapy in Beatson Airdrie was next, with lovely staff explaining what was happening and why.

Then back to Monklands hospital for more chemotherapy and targeted therapy. Once again, the kindness, professionalism and empathy from all the cancer care staff in and attached to ward 11 was outstanding.

I have just had my final treatment and can honestly say my treatments couldn’t have been any better.

These nurses are amazing as were Mr Murphy and his surgical team and my oncology team headed by Mr Hicks.

Hi

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your experiences, at what must have been a very difficult time in your life, of the care and treatment provided. I will ensure that it is shared with all the staff. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to feedback. It is important for us to learn from peoples' experiences of care and gain insight from their perspective of the services we provide by a range of healthcare professionals across a number of departments and hospitals.

I hope that you are recovering from your treatment and wish you well in the coming weeks and months as you recover and for the future.

thank you

Mhairi
