It had happened a couple of times before, but when I mentioned to my father (a retired eye doctor) that I had experienced temporary blindness in one eye, which lasted for a few minutes, he gave me strict instructions to go to the hospital.
The incident had been a couple of days before and I was reluctant to go to A&E so I contacted my GP who referred me to North Devon District Hospital. My first visit lasted about 4 hours and I was rigorously tested and assessed - first by the eye department and secondly by the neurological department.
I was then called in for another appointment with the TIA (transient ischaemic attack) clinic at which point I was given some assurance that what I had experienced wasn't a mini stroke but was in fact a migraine symptom.
Having been reluctant to make a fuss, I was given the most thorough assessment and felt extremely well cared for. Each member of staff was thoughtful and considered in their approach and communication with me and I would not be able to praise them more highly.
"A potential stroke which turned out to be a migraine"
