After I was checked in at the Hub, I was greeted by one of the nurses and made very welcome. After a few minutes I was taken through for some checks like BP and weight. No-one rushed me and I knew I was in good hands.
After a short wait, I was taken in to meet Dr Elder and Kevin, my respiratory nurse. They explained everything to me and Dr Elder arranged for me to have a chest x-ray so she could compare. Again, that was done very quickly and I was soon back with them to discuss my needs. I was then taken for oxygen therapy, still in the Hub.
After a short time I was assessed again and the decision was made that I required home oxygen as a priority. After discharge from the Hub I received a phone call about 15 minutes later from B.O.C. and the oxygen was installed in my home within 2 hours. I was rung again by Kevin who informed me that my local respiratory team would be paying me a home visit to explain everything.
All in all, the Respiratory Hub Ward 22 at the Ulster Hospital has made an incredible improvement to my quality of life within just a few days. I can't praise them enough, they are true professionals with hearts of gold.
