"No Communication"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

I was diagnosed with Lung Cancer 8 days ago. No further communication. The staff at actue assessment at the time and a week later when I chased said they can not tell me anything further as it is not their field of expertise.

I chased today and was told my case was "in clinic" when I asked what that meant I was told that it meant it was still being looked at and I would probably hear sometime this week. They already have the results of the tests carried out last week and have not asked for any more. I can only presume that there is nothing that can be done so there is no urgency for the medical team to do anything. I can understand that, but I have limited time and I do have lots of decisions to make and feel that I can best do that when I have information about my condition, I would like them to share that with me. I am very sad that 8 days after having been given this diagnosis I have no further information. This is also negatively impacting those people that I have told.

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write and share your story. Please accept my sincere apologies on behalf of the Trust that you are in this position.

I have brought your case to the attention of the Team Lead for the Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists who has asked me to pass on their sincere regret that this situation has arisen.

The best and quickest way to get resolution is for you to contact the PALS Team at Wexham Park – fhft.palswexhampark@nhs.net – who will work with the Lung Cancer Team to investigate and resolve your situation and identify any learning opportunities to try to prevent a similar situation reoccurring.

Again, please accept our sincere apologies that that this has happened to you – I trust the PALS team will put things right.

Kind regards,

Alex Jackson, Patient Experience Manager, Frimley Health Foundation Trust
