I was brought in for day surgery. I suffer horrendously with my mental health and the date had already been changed once. This was not good for me as change triggers an episode for me. Nobody's fault as things happen, but it’s one of those things.
My nurse for the day was Shelley and she could see how distressed I was and it was more than pre op nerves and she went above and beyond with her care, even sharing her own experiences with me. The anesthetist also noted my distress and tried to help too as I was second on the list to a complex case despite my surgery being a short one, however the list stayed as planned with me being second.
Shelley cared for me and kept me informed throughout the day and even when I was cancelled due to the patient before me requiring longer in theatre (which again I hope they were okay) looked after me even though she had just had an injection in her knee running to get me a sick bowl as I then had a panic attack.
Nobody has ever showed me such compassion in a hospital setting with regards to my mental health and I really would like this fed back to her please.
