I was admitted as an emergency case to Dr Gray's hospital in Elgin in February 2023 following a quick response by my GP following routine blood results. In the high dependency unit, I was diagnosed with pneumonia, sepsis and a fungal infection iny mouth and immediately put on intravenous antibiotics, blood transfusions and various other drips. My blood pressure was dangerously low and my body was failing. The quick response of the medical team in Elgin saved my life. After sending bloods to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, it turned out that I have Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and the team sent me by ambulance to Aberdeen.
This was in the space of four days. The care I received in Elgin and later in Aberdeen was excellent. I am very grateful for having a hospital in Elgin. Having this service literally saved my life. My aftercare has also been great. I now have bloods taken at Dr Gray's before each round of chemo in Aberdeen. Staff are friendly, helpful and make what is a difficult time in my life more bearable. I have the highest regard for the team at Dr Gray's and the Anchor Unit in Aberdeen under Dr Culligan and feel like I'm in safe hands. I feel it is essential to preserve and enhance our hospital service in Moray given the distances involved in going to Aberdeen. A big thank you to all the doctor's, nurses, support staff and volunteers who have helped me so far on this long journey. You are the best.
"You are the best."
