"I felt that I mattered and not just a number"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Maternity care Maternity care / Delivery suite / MLU

(as the patient),

I was admitted to daisy hill hospital at the start of September 2023 for an induction using the foleys balloon due to having high blood pressure. I was introduced to a lovely midwife Courtney that was looking after me during this process. Courtney informed me with all the information and during the procedure she explained every step. During my stay on the induction ward I was very well looked after by all the staff nothing was a problem.

The next morning I was taking back to get the foleys removed and informed I would be going to delivery suite to get my waters broke and be put on a drip to bring on my labour. A lovely Midwife called Jacqui arrived to the maternity ward to bring me down to delivery suite. She introduced herself and informed me of what was happening. I felt at ease as soon as I met her. We walked down stairs and into the delivery room where I met another lovely midwife Rebecca. Jacqui and Rebecca were absolutely brilliant from start to finish. They were very attentive, explained everything to me and answered any questions I had without hesitation. Babies heart rate was playing up a bit and the delivery suite sister Mairead came into the room to assist Jacqui. Mairead introduced herself and explained to me what was happening. I had the best experience and I have to say it was down to the 3 ladies mentioned above. I felt at ease from the very start until the safe arrival of our little bundle.

After baby arrived my placenta wouldn’t come away and the 3 ladies above went above and beyond to try and deliver it. In the end I was getting ready for theatre for manual removal. Theatre staff came into the room and introduced themselves and each person explained what they would be doing. Thankfully in the end we didn’t need to go to theatre and it came away by itself.

I personally don’t think anything needs to be improved as I was so well looked after from when I arrived until we left with our wee bundle of joy.

Good evening

First of all congratulations on the recent birth of your new baby and thank you for providing us with such excellent feedback. We are always keen to hear about individual experiences and will certainly share this with our team - in particular with the Midwives you have mentioned. Wishing you every happiness for the future.
