"My time in the unit was an absolute joy"

This was my first visit to the Medical Day Case Unit (MDCU) in The Ulster Hospital. From my initial letter from the Consultant, to the arranged appointments with phlebotomy (thanks to Caroline and Janie) right through the duration of my time spent in MDCU - the communication from all staff was exceptional.

I had an injury that may have potentially prevented me from attending as planned, I contacted the unit and felt listened to and heard. They understood my concerns and were prompt and efficient in addressing them. Thankfully I was able to attend as planned. 

All staff were friendly, chatty but also professional. They were efficient and it was clear that their team performed like a well oiled machine. Everyone had a specific role but the joint effort in providing exceptional care stood out.

From Lloyd, the slickest cannula inserter I have had the pleasure to meet, Nurses Sara & Kerry who explained everything to me, checked my understanding of the procedure and provided the highest quality and compassionate care at all times. My comfort and safety was paramount throughout which is beyond reassuring for someone like me on their first visit for initiation of treatment. 

Deputy Sister Juvy was a busy ray of sunshine who made time to acknowledge and chat with patients, even if not directly involved in their care. 

My time in the unit was an absolute joy due to the care and compassion from all staff. Thank you also to the lovely lady (sorry I didn’t remember your name) who offered me a lovely cup of coffee and biscuits during my stay). 

I can’t thank the team enough for their care, compassion, professionalism and friendliness. I couldn’t recommend this unit more to new patients!
