"No information beforehand that you cannot drive afterwards"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a relative),

My husband had an appointment at Northern Devon District Hospital Ophthalmology department for selective laser trabeculoplasty. The staff were super and the nurses were great.

My feedback relates to the appointment letter we received beforehand. It had no information on the procedure and didn't say that my husband would not be able to drive afterwards.

I knew a bit about eye procedures so I thought this might be the case and went with him but he (or someone else) would have been stuck if they had gone on their own.

Please can the appointment letter be updated?

Dear Charayq73,

I am pleased to hear that your husband had a good experience in the eye clinic, it is always nice to hear praise for our department's staff.

Further to your issue regarding information about your husband's eye procedure and the need for preparation, such as having another person driving him in, this is currently under review. The Trust began using a new all in one booking and communication system just over a year ago, and upgrades take place regularly. Information for procedures such as your husband's is usually given over the telephone at the time of booking, but I can appreciate that the your letter is one of those being reviewed for needing clearer instructions.

Once again thank you for taking the time to get in touch.

Dear Charayq73

Further to your feedback from last month, I can confirm that all outpatient letter are due to be revised, and the inclusion regarding driving when attending ophthalmology appointments, has been included in the request for changes. In the meanwhile an additional sheet to go out with the appointment letter regarding dilation and driving, is being sent out to patient.

Once again thank you for your recent feedback.
