After finding a lump on my breast a few weeks ago, I contacted my gp. The first in-person GP appointment I was offered was two weeks away. After explaining to the receptionist why I didn't want to wait that long, they informed me that they were taking part in a pilot scheme where I could be referred straight to the breast clinic at FVRH without seeing a GP if I met the criteria, which I did.
I was contacted by the clinic around a week later and offered an appointment a few days later. I was so impressed by the efficiency of the clinic on the day and the lovely staff who could see I was nervous.
I was consulted, taken for a mammogram then an ultrasound, where a cyst was diagnosed and drained, then I was checked again by the consultant and discharged, all before lunch and a day earlier than I was offered an initial GP appointment!
Hopefully the pilot scheme for referrals continues as I can't imagine having to wait another few weeks to be referred and imagining the worst. Thanks again to the staff at the clinic.
