Following telephone conversation with GP about sudden onset pain, I self-presented at Scarborough A&E.
Receptionist booked in and due to my obvious need I was triaged very quickly.
Shortly after, having already been wheelchaired, I was taken through to see a Dr Adam (surname not noted) and two nurses. It was clear from my triage that signs and symptoms had already identified the likely problem as being kidney stones.
As the consult proceeded, bloods were taken and very effective pain relief applied by the Dr and a nurse. Relief was within minutes.
The process was calm, professional and kind. Everything was explained and I was totally impressed with the service.
As the pain diminished I was placed back in the waiting room and looked after by a nurse. She didn’t need to, but did. Her concern was obvious and welcome. I watched her treating others with the same kindness and concern.
A short while later I wheeled to CT and met Precious who undertook the scan. She was a joy to be under the care of.
Later I again saw Dr Adam who confirmed the diagnosis, explained what would happen, who I’d be referred to and what should happen next.
He was clear, concise and open. He gave great confidence in the system.
I was discharged in no pain and a prescription for additional relief.
Overall I found the experience positive. The staff were all caring, not just to me but all patients. Despite being very very busy and clearly overworked, having to multitask, they were wonderful.
Please pass in my thanks for their most excellent care.
