"Positive birth story"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Maternity care Maternity care (Ward 31) / Early Pregnancy Assessment Service

(as the patient),

Hello, we just wanted to leave a wee message to say thank you to every midwife/doctor at Ayrshire Maternity Unit who helped look after us during our very long journey. Every single person took us seriously & made us feel safe.

I was admitted to RAH at 29 weeks with possible early labour as I was having regular, strong, tightenings & I had a positive fFN test. Thankfully, it wasn’t preterm labour & infact an irritated uterus. Throughout the next 10 weeks I had many false alarms thinking labour was starting, and I regularly attended the Mat assessment unit, where I think I met every shift. Every person in the unit was reassuring, comforting & understanding, which we are incredibly grateful for.

Having had a previous section due to my baby being breech, everyone was incredibly understanding of my intention & wish for a natural delivery.

Eventually, at 38+5 I was admitted to the ward to be induced. I was looked after by Anita, Kirsty & Hazel, & doctor Katie who were all lovely, professional & reassuring. The induction was successful & I was taken to labour ward the following evening to have my waters broken.

Within 4 hours of my waters breaking our 2nd baby was born 🩵 I couldn’t have asked for 2 better people to be looked after by than Fiona & Gillian. They made me feel completely safe, in control & listened to everything I wanted.

My birth & recovery this time round has been a completely different experience & I have each & every one of the midwives & doctors we came across in AMU over the last 10 weeks, to thank for that 🤍
