"Fantastic, person-centred care"

About: Bellfield Centre / Thistle Suite

(as a relative),

In October last year, our dad was admitted to the Thistle wing at the Bellfield Centre following a severe brain injury. He had spent 2 months in intensive care in Edinburgh prior to this and had severe muscle weakness, unable to walk unaided or carry out daily living tasks.

Having been a very independent man, who was still working full time prior to his injury, we were concerned about him moving into a rehab centre. We had no reason to. The care received by all members of the team at Bellfield was second to none. Craig and his superb team of nursing staff could not have been more helpful, understanding, encouraging and motivating. They got to know my dad and our family really well and treated all with dignity and respect. When the time was right, my dad received daily input from the OT and physio staff, who were all fantastic, person-centred and focused on helping dad achieve the things that were important to him.

After around 8 weeks, he was discharged home, and got to spend Christmas at home with his family which was extra special.

We cannot thank the staff enough for all they did for my Dad and our family. Without their support, I am not sure he would have made the remarkable recovery he has to date.

Hi indigo82

It is really lovely to read how well your dad is recovering following his illness and it is very kind of you to thank our staff within the Thistle Suite.

It would have been an extremely worrying time for you and your family, and seeing your dad so poorly would have been upsetting and difficult I am sure Craig and his Team are delighted to read that your dad's recovery is going from strength to strength and that they were able to support, encourage and motivate him. I have shared your story with Craig and I am positive he will share this with his team.

I hope your dad is well and once again thank you for your kind words.

Best Wishes

Caroline
