Last week I visited Scarborough’s Accident and Emergency department to support my niece and her young son who had injured his wrist falling off a slide. He was triaged within half an hour and an x ray ordered for a suspected wrist fracture.
I am emailing to say a huge thank you to all the staff that dealt with us through an extremely busy session when the department was full. The kindness and care shown was exemplary and very much appreciated.
I also want to thank the very kind member of staff who supported my niece when she became faint and organised immediate blood pressure readings and then brought tea, biscuits and a sandwich!
Thank you to the SHO paediatric doctor who was so kind during the examination and also took time to feed back to us after the potting up of the fractured wrist in the early hours of the morning.
The only thing to mention is that the staff seemed extremely stretched by the huge volume of patients they were dealing with and I hope that with the new A & E facility opening in Scarborough, staffing ratios will be prioritised to deal with the high needs of the coast.
