"Efficient x-ray process"

About: Dundee Dental Hospital / X-rays and Scans

(as the patient),

I arrived slightly early and was guided to the right waiting area by other departments or dentists. I was seen early by the imaging technician with a name along the lines of Mr. Chandrahan. He was polite and made me feel at ease, explaining the procedure. I was happy with the overall experience - prompt, polite from everyone involved, and hassle-free. Should be what the NHS is always like.

My only gripe is that I was not allowed to take a copy of the image - I am pretty sure that as it is my body and my personal record, I am entitled to ask for this without having to give a reason. I understand if photos are not allowed by patients, but then could you have an easy way to email this to me?

Dear herculespd74,

Thankyou for taking time to to comment on your experiences within x-ray at the Dundee Dental Hospital.

I am glad to here you had a positive clinical examination and will ensure this is passed onto the staff member.

In terms of the actual imaging, we do not allow patients to take photo's or have copies of their radiographs on the day of the procedure. However, you are able to request these if required, and we have a written process for doing this, to ensure we keep your data safe.

Regards

Mike

Update posted by herculespd74 (the patient)

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply.

Could you please share the details of the written process for image requests? I spoke with three different people on the day and was lastly told to phone a number where I wasn't told about a written process.

Thank again.

Dear herculespd74,

There is useful information on how to request access to your medical records on NHS Inform. The advice is to apply to the organisation that is responsible for them, in this instance it will be Medical Records at Ninewells, and ask for an Access to Your Health Records application form.

Kind regards,

Arlene
