"1 minute appointment, it took longer to park"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Respiratory Medicine (Wards 2, 6,7 10 & 16)

(as a service user),

Respiratory appointment today for ongoing long Covid symptoms. Waited 3 months for results of tests I had to push for and then the consultant took less than 60 seconds with me today. It took 40 minutes to park, 10 minute to get to clinic to see a consultant face to face which in the current NHS crisis could have been a one minute call 3 months ago. Waste of resources.

The consultant made no attempt to offer any long Covid advice that I see NHSGGC are sharing proudly on social media. I’ve had no helpful support through this whole episode from respiratory medicine and was discharged today with no follow up advice and told Covid is really just like flu. Made to feel like an idiot.

As a health professional myself there is work to be done on person centred care and use of non verbal body language. Also don’t introduce yourself to sometime as if you’ve never met them when they’ve met you before. A disappointing experience at GRI.

Also when someone tells you they’ve  lost a stone and a half don’t question is this is correct because your team have just weighed you with a jacket, scarf and trainers on.

More support from a local weight loss group this last few months than from a service.
