I began suffering seizures at work, it was tremendous trembling down my right side. I tried not to tell anyone out of panic and fear, but it became so noticeable my colleagues brought me to A&E to get checked.
It was a short 5 minute wait before my name was called. The nurse brought me to a quiet examination room and was very calm and polite. She asked questions which all made sense to me, I was surprised how quickly and easily she suspected what my problem was. I was immediately taken to another area by bed, and seen by a doctor within minutes.
The seriousness had become real, yet I felt safe as I could see staff watching over to me at all times. I received tests and medication that night, and was kept in for observation.
The following morning, the Substance Misuse Liaison brought me to a room, she asked questions and explained how my life had got to such a point without noticing. Together we created a plan ahead, explaining tactics and control of my cravings. She made me understand that the bottle is not your friend it makes out to be, it has just stabbed you in the back. She was so easy and understanding to talk to, I felt so at ease I cried.
I was provided medication for my physical symptoms, and thanks to our chat I understand how easy it was to slip into the trap of drinking. I am using her tips and ideas of keeping occupied and will always remember that special date she wrote on top of our Notes page.
