I was diagnosed with severe peripheral neuropathy and my long term recovery was not expected to be good. I was unable to walk and had limited use of my hands. I had no muscle mass and could feel nothing from my knees down.
As part of my treatment I was referred to Lucy, Occupational Health, Physio Gym Unit 3 at Falkirk Community Hospital. From the very beginning she really seemed invested in helping me. Lucy encouraged me and most of all listened to me. She dealt with my mental health as well as my physical ills. She was a great support and she provided me with so many tools that I could use at home as well as providing a varied programme when I attended the gym fortnightly. I don't think I did the same thing twice but was reminded to keep using the arsenal of information given previously.
With Lucy's support I can now walk! I can't express how incredible this is. I no longer have to use my wheelchair and I can now drive - something that we all thought would never happen.
I am heavily medicated and know this also has played a part but I genuinely credit Lucy with the recovery I've made. She always believed I could walk, she kept me going, she believed in me. Lucy is incredibly kind and a really lovely individual.
I am proud to say I'm signed off now as I'm in such a good position, I will never be the same but I'm a genuine success story thanks to Lucy. My neurologist said that he had never seen anyone with the severity of my symptoms to make such an incredible recovery.
