My sister is currently in hospital on Ward 27 and has been for some time. When she was admitted all the usual information was detailed and logged, I am the registered next of kin, all my details and most importantly contact mobile no. were recorded.
She had a fall when attempting to go to the toilet, assistance was on hand immediately, Anne was assessed, and it was agreed she was to go for a scan to investigate to see if there was any injury.
My main concern is that I did not find out about this incident till I was in her flat on the same day, at approx 7:00pm that evening. There was a message on her landline phone answer machine, passing on the information that she had had a fall that day.
I instantly phoned the ward to check. I spoke to ward sister who confirmed the incident but reassured me she was fine and no damage was done. I asked why they phoned my sisters empty flat rather than contacting me directly on my mobile number. I was advised that they phoned the number they had on file, and was sorry. I queried what would happen concern if something more serious had happened. It is the same procedure, they phone the number and if they don't get an answer they leave a message. Again, I got an apology, and again said that was the only number they had on file. They amended the phone number they had on file to my mobile number.
I hope you get the opportunity to read this and able to give your thoughts and possible action to go forward from this
