"My only visit to the Pain Clinic"

About: Heavitree Hospital / Therapies

(as a service user),

My only visit to the Pain Clinic Heavitree Hospital Exeter I visited in about November/ December last saw a practicener about the pain in my shoulder which had been a long term problem which I had some guided steroid injections . But my GP thought they might be able to advise me as to what else could be done.

The person I saw was most rude, they didn’t say how they thought they could help but just told me to take off my top and without a word or warning proceeded to inject me four or five times from my neck to my shoulder, they were the most painful injections I have ever experienced to the point that I was weeks still in terrible pain. Bearing in mind I have been having steroid injections for about four years as I was reluctant to have surgery as my husband is partially sighted so there was going to be extremely difficult managing with me having to need a long recovery.

Anyway I had been referred to the Cleveland Clinic in London, but they had not come to any positive conclusions as how to treat me so an appointment was made for me to see the doctor again. I told them no matter what, after my last terrible experience at the pain clinic could I ever have any more injections.

They arranged for surgery on my Rotator Cuff and had thought keyhole surgery might be alright but when they operated they found my tendons were in shreds and one hanging by a tread. The doctor is marvellous and had to operate completely to repair what I believe was mainly the damage caused by the very painful treatment in my visit to the Pain Clinic.

Would never have sorted to write to you but would not be bale to recommend this service to others.

I don’t just complain unless it is really justified and there are so many good people who go out and beyond in their wonderful care. And the young doctor in A&E, after hours of work to be so lovely in the face of some extremely difficult people. And my lovely young Physiotherapist.
