I had been suffering with very tight and swollen ankles following a total knee replacement. I contacted my local surgery (Bourtreehill Medical practice) and was given a call back from the nurse practitioner within 15 minutes. I was then given a face to face appointment within a couple of hours. The nurse practitioner was very thorough and very helpful and was concerned that I may have a deep vein thrombosis and therefore referred me to the Rapid Assessment & Care Unit at Crosshouse Hospital.
I was seen immediately upon arrival at the Rapid Assessment & Care Unit and an ultrasound scan was booked for half an hour later. Thankfully the scan showed that I did not have a DVT, it was just fluid build up. I was so grateful that I did not have to go to A&E and I was seen so quickly upon at arriving at Crosshouse. All the NHS staff have been so friendly and helpful.
