I had an appointment with a consultant psychologist at Stirling Community Hospital which is also known as Stirling Health and Care Village - somewhat confusing. There are several large buildings on the campus some of which have names (eg Bellfield Centre) but not all of them are obvious.
On entering the campus from Livilands Gate there are no signposts for the Psychology Department. After walking round for some time, I was sent in the right direction but when walking down what I thought was the right corridor, I saw a sign which said Mental Health for Older Adults. When does one become an older adult? Is this another name for geriatrics? Who knows?
Despite being what I consider an older adult (in my seventies), this did not lead me to the right place for my appointment. I did discover Psychological Services eventually, had my appointment and was guided to an exit different from where I had entered the building. On my second appointment, I again had difficulty finding the right place. My appointment was to investigate the beginnings of memory loss (not at all severe) but the confusion and the lack of signposting was actually quite distressing. I understand from the staff that this scenario is not at all unusual.
Please - some better signage!
