"Lack of signposting"

About: Outpatients Centre / Adult Clinical Psychology

(as the patient),

I had an appointment with a consultant psychologist at Stirling Community Hospital which is also known as Stirling Health and Care Village - somewhat confusing.  There are several large buildings on the campus some of which have names (eg Bellfield Centre) but not all of them are obvious.

On entering the campus from Livilands Gate there are no signposts for the Psychology Department.  After walking round for some time, I was sent in the right direction but when walking down what I thought was the right corridor, I saw a sign which said Mental Health for Older Adults.  When does one become an older adult? Is this another name for geriatrics? Who knows?

Despite being what I consider an older adult (in my seventies), this did not lead me to the right place for my appointment.  I did discover Psychological Services eventually, had my appointment and was guided to an exit different from where I had entered the building.  On my second appointment, I again had difficulty finding the right place.  My appointment was to investigate the beginnings of memory loss (not at all severe) but the confusion and the lack of signposting was actually quite distressing. I understand from the staff that this scenario is not at all unusual.

Please - some better signage!

Good Afternoon andromedaxz37

I would like to apologise for your experience when attending for your appointment, I know how frustrating and stressful it can be when you are trying to find a particular place when it is time sensitive for an appointment.

We try our very best to ensure that all our signage is clear and suitably positioned to suit our patients needs and requirements and I apologise that on this occasion we have not met your needs.

I will raise your concerns with the responsible team and if you would like to chat or provide me with any additional information, please contact me on 01324 566162 or by email - caroline.logan@nhs.scot.

I hope this is helpful.

Caroline
